Atlantic Mine couple face delivery of meth charges

ATLANTIC MINE, MI— Two Houghton County residents were arrested by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team on meth-related charges last week.

Detectives conducted numerous undercover drug purchases from Michael Statler, 36, and Arleen Statler, 36, of Atlantic Mine. On February 19th, troopers from the Michigan State Police Hometown Security Team conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle Michael Statler was driving. They found meth and a loaded handgun on Arleen Statler. She was arrested for possession of meth and felony firearms. Michael was arrested for a personal protection order violation.

A search warrant executed at their residence uncovered meth, digital scales, cell phones, five handguns, and 13 long guns. Both were charged with three counts of delivery of meth.

Michael Statler remains lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Arleen Statler’s bond is set at $25,000.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
