ST. IGNACE, MI-- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is hosting a public meeting in St. Ignace to discuss wolf management issues.
Gray wolves in the upper Great Lakes region were removed from the federal endangered species list this year. That left state officials in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin in charge of making sure their population remains healthy. All three states have developed management plans for the predator. Michigan's DNR conducts periodic sessions to get public feedback.
The meeting Thursday will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Little Bear East Arena at 275 Marquette St. in St. Ignace.
Officials will discuss how Michigan's wolf plan is being carried out. They'll assess options for taking steps for which there's too little money or that might be handled by outside groups.
