Wind cuts power to hundreds across the U.P.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Wind is wreaking havoc across the U.P. as several areas struggle with power outages.

Cloverland Electric Cooperative says as of 5 p.m. Monday about 1,100 customers were without power, due mostly to downed lines, broken poles, and trees on lines.  The majority of the outages are in the St. Ignace, Pickford, Detour Village, Manistique, Cooks, Garden, Naubinway, Trout Lake, Cedarville, and Moran areas.

Upper Peninsula Power Company says 44 customers in Ishpeming and one in Houghton lost power.

And WE Energies is reporting a loss of electricity to 201 customers in Dickinson County between Iron Mountain and Florence, Wisconsin.

Crews will be working through the evening to restore power. The company reminds people not to approach or touch downed power lines, but instead to call their power supplier to report damage.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
