New mineral zone found near Eagle Mine

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   Eagle Mine officials say they’ve found another potential mining site on the Yellow Dog Plains.

The high-grade mineralization zone is about 1.25 miles east of the current deposit and about 3,000 feet below the surface.

Eagle has drilled 20 holes as part of its exploration program.  Thirteen of them indicated the presence of nickel and copper.  The zone also includes platinum, palladium, gold, and silver.

Eagle Mine General Manager Mike Welch says, “We are encouraged by the results of our ongoing exploration program near Eagle Mine.  These latest drilling results show the potential for high?grade mineralization and strong nickel?copper grades near Eagle."

Officials are adding another drill rig to help advance the exploration process for the rest of the year.  They say it’s too early to tell if any mineral resources could be economically extracted from the new zone.
