Get firewood on state-managed land

MARQUETTE, MI— The Department of Natural Resources is offering fuelwood permits for certain portions of state forest land.

Those who purchase a permit may collect up to five standard cords of wood—a stack measuring 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet. Collected wood must be from already dead and downed trees within 200 feet of the road.

To get a permit, go online to www.mdnr-elicense.com, buy one at a DNR Customer Service Center, or mail an application to the DNR office that manages the state forest land where you wish to collect fuelwood.

For a list of rules and more information, go to www.michigan.gov/fuelwood.
