Identity of drowning victim released

WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials have released the name of a man who drowned in Gogebic County last week.

Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post say Ryan Kohnhorst, 39, of Merill, Wisconsin fell from Presque Isle Falls Friday evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers were assisted by U.S. Forest Service officers, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Gogebic County Search and Rescue and Department of Natural Resources officers from the Porcupine Mountains.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
