An interview with Marquette Choral Society director Dr. Erin Colwitz

Choirs are sometimes tasked with tackling tough subjects, like love and loss.

The Marquette Choral Society's upcoming concert "Divine Light" will include the Eric Whitacre piece "The Sacred Veil," a long-form work written in 2018 about the story of Tony and Julia Silvestri's meeting, marriage, and Julia's diagnosis and struggle with ovarian cancer. Whitacre and Silvestri are long-time collaborators, having worked on pieces together since the 2000s. The 12-movement song cycle runs for almost an hour, telling the story of Tony and Julia's life, love, loss, and a way forward. Cellist Adam Hall and pianist Jan Brodersen will accompany the Choral Society. The choir will also sing additional works from Whitacre.

Find more information on "The Sacred Veil" from Eric Whitacre's website here.
