Marquette Choral Society will Celebrate the Earth with the music of Paul Winter this April.
Missa Gaia is a large-scale contemporary work for mixed choir, instrumentalists, vocal soloists, soprano saxophone, animal sounds, and more. It takes a liturgical text and contemporizes the mass setting while recognizing climate change concerns and offering a message of hope for the future. The talents of a variety of regional musicians will take the Kaufman Auditorium stage.
Dr. Erin Colwitz is the Musical Director of the choir and the Director of Choral Activities at Northern Michigan University. She is a conductor, lecturer, adjudicator, clinician, and amongst many other credits, is also the President of the Michigan chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
Patrick Booth is a saxophonist, composer, and educator from the U.P. He also teaches courses with the music department at NMU. You might know him from a variety of performances across the country, including with Sonic Perfume, Public Access, Steve Leaf and the Ex-Pats, and many more. He’ll be joining the Marquette Choral Society with his soprano saxophone
