Marquette County is preparing for a night of hockey and community support on Saturday, September 13, when the United Way of Marquette County hosts the annual Marquette County Hockey Night at the Berry Events Center. The evening features the Detroit Red Wings Alumni taking the ice against local hockey players in an event that combines sports, fundraising, and community spirit.
Two local players, Brad Boudrie and Kevin Thompson, earned a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to skate with the Red Wings Alumni by finishing as the top fundraisers in a competition that closed at the end of August.
The event begins with a community tailgate at 3 p.m. outside the Berry Events Center, followed by doors opening at 5 p.m. for a sled hockey exhibition featuring national-level players. Youth hockey demonstrations will also take place before the main event, which begins at 7 p.m.

Listen to UWMQT Executive Director Andrew Rickauer speak with Public Radio 90's Kurt Hauswirth about the event:
Hockey Night is United Way’s largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds staying in Marquette County to support programs addressing food insecurity, housing, youth and senior services, and other vital needs. Last year, more than 21,000 residents (approximately one in three county residents) benefited from programs supported by United Way partner agencies.
Tickets are available through NMU Ticketing, with additional opportunities including an online auction for a suite at the Berry Events Center. The night is expected to draw fans of all ages for a celebration of hockey and community impact.
