Clean Energy Conference looking at future of renewable energy in UP

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Technological University and nearly a dozen other Upper Peninsula agencies are hosting a virtual U.P. Clean Energy Conference Monday.

The conference hopes to generate renewable energy ideas that dovetail into recommendations from the U.P. Energy Task Force.

Jenn Hill is with the planning committee and a member of the task force. She says clean energy like hydro and solar power not only preserves the environment; it can be kinder to your pocketbook.

“Wind and solar—even without subsidies—are cheaper than even… certainly cheaper than coal and becoming equal to and in some cases cheaper than natural gas.”

Participants will discuss renewable energy and ideas regarding its implementation in more areas of the Upper Peninsula. Hill says while clean energy doesn’t need fuel, it does need certain equipment to work.

The conference takes place Monday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Those who wish to participate in the free event must register to receive a Zoom link.
