Construction to affect Hancock traffic

HANCOCK, MI--   The traffic pattern in Hancock is shifting, in preparation for a reconstruction project in the city.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says beginning Monday or Tuesday all Front Street traffic will shift to the northbound lanes of the highway. One lane in each direction will be maintained between the lift bridge and Reservation Street.

The southbound US-41 connector ramp to eastbound M-26 will be closed. Work will start on the southbound lanes of 41 and the connector ramp. Southbound traffic will cross the median back to the normal lanes as it enters the lift bridge.

The Portage Lake Lift Bridge will be restricted to operating on the hour, with no lifts for pleasure craft at the peak hours of 8 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m.
