Falcon nests at Marquette power plant

MARQUETTE, MI--   A rare breeding falcon is nesting again this year at a Marquette power plant.

The Peregrine Falcon nested and has hatched two male chicks at the WE Energies Presque Isle Power Plant.  It’s the second year that the same mother has laid her eggs at the nest.

Officials say employees and their families were given a chance to see the baby falcons up close as they were banded.  Children came up with names for the chicks, which were chosen at random out of a hat.  The names are Felco and Superman.

Peregrine Falcons are endangered, and biologists will use the bands to track their locations over their lifetime.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
