DRUMMOND ISLAND, MI-- A conservation group in northern lower Michigan has created a nature preserve on Drummond Island off the eastern Upper Peninsula.
The Little Traverse Conservancy says it's a gift from the family of Carl Forslund Jr. in memory of their parents, Carl and Anne Forslund. The preserve includes more than 56 acres as well as 1,800 feet of shore along the St. Marys Channel.
The conservancy says the area is accessible to the public and is called the Forslund Dix Nature Preserve. The Forslund family was in the furniture business in Grand Rapids.
Little Traverse Conservancy says it has been expanding its holdings in the eastern Upper Peninsula, especially shorelines.
