State Attorney General opens investigation into Michigan’s priests

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   The state Attorney General’s office has opened an investigation into the seven Catholic dioceses of Michigan.

The office plans to look into alleged sexual abuse and assault of children from 1950 to present.

The AG’s office says the investigation started in August, after a Pennsylvania investigation revealed that hundreds of priests had sexually abused children.

Michael Diebold is with the Diocese of Lansing.

“We welcome this review. We have always stated in the past that we continue as always to cooperate with law enforcement to do whatever they need us to do,” he says.

Multiple dioceses say they’ll cooperate with the investigation into the state’s Catholic priests and religious order priests who have worked in Michigan.

People with information can confidentially report to the A-G’s office online at Michigan.gov/CI.
