CRYSTAL FALLS, MI (AP)-- A woman accused of killing an Iron River man who disappeared in 2014 has been ordered to get a competency exam.
The Daily News of Iron Mountain reports a judge on Tuesday granted a prosecutor's request to have 33-year-old Kelly Cochran evaluated. She remains jailed in Iron County on a $5 million bond after pleading not guilty to homicide-open murder and other crimes related to the death of Chris Regan.
Judge C. Joseph Schwedler also appointed attorney Geoffrey Lawrence to represent Cochran. She originally said she wanted to represent herself.
Cochran, of Merrillville, Indiana, was arrested last month in Kentucky. Regan was last seen in Iron River.
Police also are investigating the February death of Cochran's husband.
