Background information on Norway trooper shooting released

NORWAY, MI--   Additional information has been released in a case where a Norway man shot at and injured two State Police troopers in February.

WLUC-TV reports a woman walked in on Richard Goodreau, 49, committing a sex act on a boy on February 6.  She reported it to Norway Police, but because of a potential conflict with the department the case was referred to Michigan State Police.  During interviews the victim apparently confirmed the report, and an arrest warrant for first-degree criminal sexual conduct was issued for Goodreau.

Troopers tried to speak to Goodreau at his home February 11, but he didn’t answer the door.  When they returned a second time Goodreau shot at and injured them.

Goodreau remains in the Dickinson County Jail for first-degree CSC, assault with intent to murder, malicious destruction of police property, and felony firearms.  Officials are waiting for the results of an exam to see if he’s competent to stand trial.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
