"The extreme always seems to make an impression."
The Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council will present "Heathers the Musical," opening on Thursday, May 2nd. The show is based on the 1988 film of the same title starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The dark and comedic story stars brainy misfit Veronica Sawyer who must contend with the biggest clique at Westerberg High, the Heathers. The film was adapted into musical form with music, lyrics and book by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy.
With the Vista Theater in Negaunee currently out of commission, PAAC's performances of "Heathers" will take place at the U.P. Masonic Center Red Room in Marquette, Michigan. This will be the first full-length production since the Vista's roof collapse in 2020.
Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Han Numinen (Veronica) and Eliisa Gladwell (McNamera) about the show:
"Heathers the Musical" performances take place Thursday, May 2nd, Friday, May 3rd, and Saturday, May 4th at 7 pm.
Children under the age of 17 are suggested to be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian as this show contains adult material such as harsh language, violence, drugs, and sexually suggestive themes.
