After more than four decades on the road, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, lead vocalist and fiddler for the renowned Irish group Altan, remains as deeply committed to preserving regional heritage as she was when the band first formed. Preparing for a return performance in Marquette at NMU for the Beaumier Heritage Concert Series, Ní Mhaonaigh reflected on the unique challenge traditional Irish musicians face when performing at home versus abroad.
