MARQUETTE, MI-- Two environmental groups are hosting a public forum on what they say is a threat to Marquette County’s last stretch of wild lands.
Save the Wild U.P. and the Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition are holding the informational session called “Save the Michigamme Highlands” at Peter White Public Library. Discussion will focus on the County Road 595 proposal and the Marquette County Road Commission’s lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency. The route would connect the Eagle Mine with Lundin Mining’s ore processing plant in Humboldt.
Environmental officials say the road would negatively impact 22 miles of remote wild lands, fragile wetlands, and wildlife corridors.
The forum begins at 6 p.m. in Peter White Public Library’s Community Room.
