ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   No injuries are reported in a single-vehicle crash involving a logging truck Thursday in Ely Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 4:45 p.m. on US-41 West near County road 496. A KRS Trucking semi-tractor trailer driven by Percy Leach of Gwinn was eastbound when he lost control of the truck on the slushy road. The semi crossed the centerline, jackknifed and left the roadway. The entire load of logs spilled onto the road and shoulder.

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Ely Township Tuesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of US-41 and County Road 496. A westbound Subaru Forester driven by a 59-year-old Republic woman was stopped and waiting to turn into a business when she was rear-ended by a Toyota Camry driven by a 42-year-old Crystal Falls man.

The woman complained of injuries to her neck and was taken to UPHS-Bell.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of US-41 and County Road 492 in Marquette Township Sunday. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says a 22-year-old Marquette man was exiting the Taco Bell driveway in a pickup when he crossed the centerline and struck a westbound SUV driven by a 23-year-old Ishpeming man.

A female passenger in the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her neck and knee. She was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two traffic accidents happened within 45 minutes of each other in Negaunee Township Sunday. 

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies first responded around 10:55 a.m. to US-41 near Heritage Drive. They say Elisha Greiser, 32, of Iron River was eastbound in a pickup truck when she lost control on the icy roadway. The truck slid sideways into a snowbank then overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

Only minor injuries were reported.

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Ishpeming Police Department is looking for a vehicle involved in a road rage incident. 

Officers say Thursday morning around 7:50 a silver Subaru hatchback was westbound on US-41 when it was purposely rear-ended three times between the Second Street roundabout and Lakeshore Drive within the Ishpeming city limits.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark, older-model pickup. It has a square body style and square headlights with four small lights on top of the cab. It may have some front-end damage.

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A three-vehicle crash in Negaunee Township injured two people.

Michigan State Police say Wednesday around noon a pickup driven by Gary Perala of Negaunee was eastbound on US-41 near Marquette Powersports when his truck crossed several lanes of traffic. It struck two vehicles in the westbound lanes.

Perala was taken to UPHS-Marquette for a non-life-threatening head injury.

One of the other drivers, Donna Eliassen of Negaunee, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was also taken to UPHS-Marquette with injuries to her lower body.

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Humboldt Township. 

Troopers were dispatched Wednesday around 3:20 p.m. to US-41 just east of Wolf Lake Road. Preliminary investigation indicates a 61-year-old man from Champion drove off the right side of the road. His vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.

Bystanders found the man unresponsive. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette and pronounced dead.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the accident.

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   Snow caused a Marquette County Road Commission plow to roll over in Ely Township Thursday. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police were dispatched to US-41 near County Road CN just after 3 p.m. They say a plow driven by a 53-year-old Ishpeming man was clearing snow near a guardrail. The snow pulled the truck, with the wing plow engaged, off the side of the road. The truck spun around and ended up on its side down an embankment.

The driver was not injured.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Negaunee resident has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, following a crash in Marquette Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Friday just before 4 p.m. to US-41 near Commerce Drive. Deputies say a Nissan Versa driven by a Negaunee resident tried to cross the highway from the crossover through the eastbound lanes when it failed to yield to traffic. The Versa was struck in the rear passenger side by a Ford F150 driven by a Marquette resident.

L'ANSE, MI--   Two Baraga County residents were arrested on drug charges last week after their vehicle went into a ditch on US-41. 

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team says the suspects were northbound just south of L’Anse on Thursday when their vehicle slid off the road in icy conditions and hit the ditch. No one was injured.

UPSET detectives identified the driver and passenger as suspects involved in a four-month-long drug investigation in the area. Both were arrested and numerous prescription pills were seized.
